This new and engaging exhibition delves into the rich history of Banbury, highlighting the changes we’ve seen within living memory and the evolution of our town since the 1940s.
Through rare photographs, treasured artefacts, and interactive displays, you’ll discover how our marketplace has evolved, how industries have shifted, and how our communities have been shaped by both tradition and transformation. From the bustling streets and local landmarks to the modern developments of today; discover how our community has grown and adapted.
“This exhibition is a tribute to Banbury’s resilience and adaptability,” said Exhibitions Manager Dale Johnston. “We hope it inspires visitors to reflect on their own memories of the town and most importantly share them’
This exhibition has only been made possible through the generosity and support of a host of local partners and community members, not least Banbury Camera Club and their ‘Images of Banbury’ project. Many of the images of Banbury that can be seen in this exhibition, have come from their archive.
So, whether visitors have called Banbury home for decades or have newly arrived, this exhibition offers a unique opportunity to reflect on Banbury’s recent history; and celebrate the stories and places that have made it the vibrant town it is today. Visitors will also be able to share and record their own memories and stories in the exhibition, creating a lasting legacy for our community.
‘The Changing Face of Banbury’ opens on Saturday 19th October 2024 and will run until Sunday 16th March 2025.
On Sundays, visitors to the exhibition will find children’s tickets are free with a paying adult. We hope to encourage every generation of Banbury to visit this exhibition and be able to share in their community history.
