Who were the real Viking heroes?  People with skill, bravery or power? People with resilience and determination?

Learn all about the Norse people and decide what makes a true hero!

Our time-limited KS2 workshop – incorporating a visit to the Heroes of the Viking World temporary exhibition – explores all aspects of Viking life. With museum workshop activities and discussion, this session explores the Norse people who invaded Britain from 793 AD.

 

Pupils will:

  • Find out who the Vikings were and how they lived
  • Explore Viking beliefs, skills, culture and crafts
  • Learn about real-life Viking leaders and warriors
  • Appreciate how the Vikings affected the local area
  • Decide who were the real Viking heroes!

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the Norse people and their impact on British history
  • Understanding the technology of the past and how it differs from our own
  • Developing skills in questioning, imagining, thinking critically and evaluating
  • Improving knowledge of chronology
  • Learning new vocabulary and skills

 

Session format

Schools will typically arrive at 10.00am and leave by 2.00pm at the latest

The day includes up to 3 hours teaching time, made up of workshop activities, gallery time and discussion.

We require a ratio of 1:10 staff to pupils, in addition to 1-2-1 support staff

Please note, the exhibition includes real Viking skeletons.

Cost

£6.00 per pupil

SEND pupils

We very much welcome SEND pupils in our sessions. Please discuss arrangements for special needs at the time of booking. We are happy to give you an online ‘Welcome call’ before the visit, to help students with the transition from school to the Museum.

Teacher’s pre-visits to the Museum

As all visits to the Museum are still pre-booked until restrictions ease further, please let us know in advance if you want to make a pre-visit.

Unless an alternative date can be found,

Visits cancelled within 28 days of the school visit will incur a 50% cancellation fee. 

Visits cancelled within 7 days of the school visit will incur a 100% cancellation fee.
